On December 10–11, Northern Sweden gathered in Brussels with 50 regional representatives to participate in a meeting for Europe Forum Northern Sweden in the midst of the ongoing negotiations for the next program period for the EU "post-2020". The two days, organized by North Sweden invited a number of leading EU representatives including the head of the cabinet of Sweden's new EU commissioner.
On November 29, the Council of Ministers adopted positions on the importance of space for the sustainable development of the Arctic region. The space-based systems are described as important for, among other things, research and monitoring of the Arctic, enabling the implementation of the EU strategy for the Arctic regions. Northern Sweden is already recognized as a strong player in space research and space activity infrastructure, and this position also highlights the opportunities to use the resources for the development of the Arctic region.
On November 28, the North Sweden European Office organized a round table on the EU's future transport policy within the framework of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) financing mechanism and the revision of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). The seminar was held in close collaboration with the Norrbotniabanan as well as the Region Norrbotten and Region Västerbotten.
On November 22 during Raw Materials Week, North Sweden European Office organized two forest seminars to highlight Swedish forestry's role in EU climate work. Participants from the European Commission, the European Parliament, forest organizations, and Swedish regional offices gathered to participate in the policy-oriented seminars about an active forest management in Sweden and its role in contributing to the EU 2015 climate target.
On November 18, the second edition of last year's success Arctic Shorts was organized at the BOZAR cultural center in Brussels, where North Sweden stood as co-organizers. Seven short films from the Arctic regions were shown during the evening illustrating the beauty, challenges and real life of the Arctic.
