RawMatTERS is the winner of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s (EIT) call for strategic partnerships to boost innovation and tackle raw materials challenges in Europe. Luleå with Luleå University of Technology (LTU) is one of six locations in Europe that will be responsible for part of the European Union's biggest investment in Raw Materials "RawMatTERS". An initiative that is expected to yield higher competitiveness, new businesses and new jobs. The EIT announced the winner December 10, 2014.
Cross-border cooperation on transport and logistics was among the themes on the agenda during the seminar. Current challenges within the transport and infrastructure sector were discussed among regional stakeholders and EU representatives.
On November 4, the Municipality of Arjeplog in Northern Sweden arranged a conference discussing increased cooperation between local authorities and business organizations in Northern Sweden and Northern Norway. This as a response to the decision by the Norwegian government to start the construction of the road tunnel through Tjernfjellet, which comprises an essential section of the corridor "The Silver Road": Skellefteå-Bodö.
On the 4th and 5th of November, the Northern Sparsely Populated Areas held its yearly forum in Bodø. Politicians and other actors from the northern regions of Sweden, Finland and Norway got together to discuss Arctic issues. A central question during the forum was the NSPA's role in EU Arctic policy processes. The possibility for a common OECD study for the NSPA region also constituted part of the focus.
North Sweden European Office arranged a seminar on "Sustainable Mining in the Arctic Region' October 21 in Brussels highlightening the Regional Strategy for Mineral Extraction in Norrbotten and Västerbotten prepared in line with Sweden's mineral strategy and the EU:s Raw Materials Initiative.
